Cinderella: The First 30,000 Years
2013 - 2014
Cinderella, The First 30,000 Years was produced and performed at the UWM 508 Studio in 2014. The project began with the script, written by Robin Mello, then devised and revised through a semester-long theatre course (THR 475: Rehearsal & Performance, an actor's laboratory). The show was a curricular experiment designed to give students an opportunity to explore Epic Theatre, Story Theatre, and various takes on 'physical theatre' (with a focus on Growtowski and Montanero).
The script was written primarily as a teaching and learning tool to support students understanding of frugality, narrative, illusion, and ensemble. The characters in this play are archetypal, symbolic, larger-than-life, and magical.
